I am reading all the time. Iheard an interview with Bill Gates this morning, actually, and he said that hereads each night for a full 2 hours. That’s impressive. That’s what the‘masters’ do! There was an article recently in Forbesmagazine – “Top 10 Career Lessons from Powerful Women”. I wantto share some of the content with you – and my point of view on each. WAKE UP EARLY! “Starbucks’ President Michelle Gass wakes up at 4:30 every morning to gorunning. Avon chairman Andrea Jung wakes up at 5. Longtime Vogue editorAnna Wintour is on the tennis court by 6 every morning before work.” My point of view on this? Itotally agree and, in fact, ever since I heard Oprah being interviewed aboutthe time that she gets up in the morning (5:00 a.m. also) – I made theconscious decision to get up earlier also. No more excuses for not getting myexercise done on a daily basis. The alarm goes off at 5:45 – I’m up and at ‘em.I find that doing my exercise routine first thing in the morning sets me up forsuccess for the rest of the day. There is no room for compromise here, in myworld. What’s your practice? DELEGATE!   “Katie Taylor, the CEO of hotel brand Four Seasons, recently admitted thatshe is a bit of a “control freak,” but for the good of her and everyone aroundher, she tries to delegate.” My Point of View on This?  It’sa constant challenge for me. I, too, am a control freak – I’m getting better.And, as you grow your business, it is critical that we get better at this. Whathappened along the way that we, as women, think we are the ONLY ONES who can dothings right? Geesh! I have often compromised on the quality of outcomesbecause I have held so tightly to the reins. Not smart! Where can you let gothis week? What difference will that make, financially, to your business? Thisis one of my natural talents – and it comes directly from my mother! I have anever-ending curiosity about things, people, places and will have it to the dayI die. My 89-year old mother, in the last month of her life, was still askingquestions about how certain TV commercials are made these days. And I am a chipoff the old block. When I compromise about asking questions(so as not to lookor sound stupid in front of other people), I pay the price. I fall behind thecompetition. I am not staying fresh, innovative and leading edge. Stay curious.Ask the questions. Study. Master your craft. BE PERSISTENT! “As the story goes, Thomas Edison failed thousands of times while inventingthe light bulb. “I have found 10,000 ways something won’t work,” he said. Buthe wasn’t discouraged, “because every wrong attempt discarded is another stepforward.” Most women reach the top after three decades plugging away. Successtakes persistence, stamina and patience.” My Point of View on this? Ifind that women entrepreneurs these days want it easy. Everything we read says– Succeed today! Earn this much overnight! Work less and Earn More! And becauseof all this information coming at us, day in and day out, our expectations areunreal. Persistence is a trait of all successful entrepreneurs. I havepersisted and persisted to get opportunities – mainly because I was hungry!Many of you aren’t hungry – in fact, you’re lazy and have an entitlementmentality. I see it all the time. Many of you stop when you are just 3 feetfrom gold – you’ve got to persist to succeed. Do not compromise on your goals –do not back up your goals based on who you know, what you know and what youhave – because it feels ‘hard’. Persist to the end! These are great lessons and, whenimplemented, will move you forward in your business.  Wecan’t have it easy all the time – but it doesn’t have to be difficult, hard orexpensive either. There are many successful women who havewalked ahead of us! Get smart. Get reading. Take action. You,too, can create a happy, healthy and wealthy life – applying one golden nuggetat a time. So, stop with the excuses. Stopcompromising on your dreams and your goals.
