GBC makes some of the most popular combbinding machines on the market. Their binding machines are easy to useand are suitable for various work environments. One of GBC's newestdevices is the CombBind C20E, an updated version of the C20. This isdefinitely a device you should check out if you're looking for a newcomb binding machine. Take a look at its strengths and weaknesses: Strengths: TheC20E can punch up to 20 sheets at a time which is a decent amount for acomb binding machine. This device has an vertical, electric punchingmechanism which makes it easy to prepare your documents for binding. There is even a punch alignment sensor so you can properly line up yourpages. (You can use letter- and A4-sized paper with this device, inaddition to oversized covers.) Thismachine can bind documents that are up to 320 pages long using combsthat are up to 1.5" in diameter. The C20E has a helpful spine sizeguide that's color-coded. You can use it to figure out how thick yourdocument is and then choose a comb that will accommodate all of thepages. The C20E has a comb storagetray so you will have somewhere to conveniently stash your combs. It'slocated near the chip tray. And speaking of the chip tray, it'sequipped with a sensor that will alert you when you need to dispose ofyour paper bits. If you like touse GBC ZipBind spines, you can punch holes in your document with theC20E and then bind it by hand. If you want, you could even pre-punch alot of paper so you can use your ZipBind spines when you're out in thefield. This device iswell-designed and it's not overly large. It's a good choice for schoolsand smaller offices. It's also good for home use if you need to binddocuments for your home-based business. Finally, the C20E comes with a 1-year warranty. Weaknesses: Althoughthe 320-page binding capacity is suitable for occasional use, it wouldhave been nice if GBC has engineered the machine to work with all combsizes. (The largest combs are 2" in diameter and can bind work that's425 pages long.) This machinedoesn't have disengageable punching dies, so it will be very difficultto punch and bind documents of varying sizes. Luckily, there are plentyof machines on the market with disengageable dies, so it isn't hard tofind one. The C20E is really meant for occasional use, so it might not be able to handle large volumes of punching and binding. TheGBC CombBind C20E is a nice improvement over the C20, which had amanual punching mechanism instead of an electric one. This device isuser-friendly and it's great for documents that are up to 320 pageslong. Plus, this machine is well-designed, it can be used inconjunction with GBC ZipBind spines, and it comes with a good warranty.Remember to take the device's weaknesses into consideration so you canbe sure this device is right for you.
