As we all know to live in this world we have to perform some activity by which we can earn money. There are many activities by which we can earn money and meet the standards to live in this society. And from one of them is franchise. Franc Small offices have unique needs, and thatincludes document shredding. Designed with the smaller business inmind, the Dahle 20314 is a cross-cut shredder that offers Level 3security and brings you into compliance with federal regulations. The
Why should a doctorconvert his office to an Electronic Medical Record, or EMR, system? Cant hejust maintain the status quo?Using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a businesscontinuity tool. Lets suppose youre running your business on paper charts. You have 20 years of patient data in their charts and very little storedelectronically. You may say this works and your practice is successful. What happens if your office gets struck by a fire, flood ortheft? If its a fire or flood, you would lose all your patients charts. Yourpatients would come into the office, or wherever you relocate to, and you wouldhave no history on them. You wont know what symptoms they had when they firstvisited your office, what you diagnosed or what meds you prescribed. You wouldlook like you were born yesterday. Some of your patients might put up with youand your staff asking introductory questions. Some wont. They would walk outand find another doctor. If its a theft, you have an even bigger problem. You wouldhave to disclose to your patients that their nonpublic data has beencompromised. This is part of federal and California HIPAA laws. This wouldcreate quite a panic among your practice. As if running a successful businesswasnt challenging enough these days, you would be without patient data andunder legal mandates to tell your patients about the theft. We had a dentistpanic because his staff fielded 17 callsin a row from patients canceling their appointments. What would you do ifthat happened to you?Whatever the case, youve lost your patients trust. Someonewould eventually ask what is your business continuity plan? If youre runningyour business on paper charts, you probably dont have a business continuityplan. You could end up out of business from the loss of data and from patientsdoubting your competence.Thats where electronic medical records could have saved you.Your patients data will be saved electronically and can be backed up onlineevery night. You can control who will have access to that data in your officeand know that it is backed up with military grade encryption. Lets go back to something I was discussing a few minutesago. What do you do if your office is struck by fire, flood or theft?Well, with a fire or flood, you would know that your data(and your patients data) was being backed up daily to an offsite location. Youwould clean up from the mess or relocate your practice. You would restore yourpatients data from the offsite location and be back in business. You will know what symptoms they had whenthey first visited your office, you willknow what you diagnosed and you willknow what meds you prescribed. You will look like a responsible business ownerwho had a successful business continuity plan. What if it were a theft? Lets suppose your computers werenever recovered. The patient data would probably still be safe. The thieveswould have a hard time setting up the computers, logging in to your systems andviewing patient data. The security and encryption would make their task toodifficult and time-consuming. They would probably give up, reformat the harddrives and sell the hardware for whatever they could get. Your patient data probablywould never be read by the thieves.Nobody likes talking about disaster recovery or businesscontinuity, but lets be real. September 11 happened. Hurricane Katrinahappened. Burglaries happen. You have to protect your data. Youre better offwith the data in electronic format that you are with shelves full of papercharts. You have to ask yourself what would you do if your office were struckby a fire, flood or theft?
