Towardsthe acceptable banking practice of financing 75% of incremental working capitalrequirements of SMEs, on an average, only 60% of the projects were fundedbetween 2006-07 and 2008-09. When itcomes to working capital, banks are permitted to fund up to 75% of theincremental requirements viz increase in current assets and current liabilities-of borrowers. As Increase in Balance-Sheet Sizeindicates, banks can fund 75% of increase in current assets (74%) less increasein current liabilities (21%).AnubhavTamhane, one of the founding partners of AV Realty says whilebanks can fund up to 40% of SMEs incremental working capital requirements, theactual funding provided by banks was only 25%. This reveals a significantincremental funding opportunity (IFO) the difference between the actualbank funding and the maximum permissible levels of 15% of SMEs incrementalworking capital requirements.Itclearly indicates a really huge incremental funding opportunity (IFO) which isthe difference between actual funding by the bands and the maximum permissiblelevels i.e. 15% of SMEs incremental working capital requirements.When it comes to size, the size of fundingrequirements for small and medium enterprises is much smaller.
