Tamerica's TW3100 is a three to one pitchbinding system that binds documents in the double loop wire style. Themachine comes with a wire hanger and a wire closing device included. Here are a few of what we consider to be the TW3100's strengths andweaknesses. Strengths: We've always found thatdisengageable dies are one of the better features to have in a bindingsystem, and the TW3100 has forty of them. What this means is that youwill be able to punch and bind documents that are up to 14" in length(also known as legal size). This feature alone means that the TW3100 isone of the most affordable double loop binding systems on the market. The TW3100 features two separate handles, one that operates thepunching mechanism and one for the wire closer. This is a great idea, alot of similar binding systems have just one handle that operates boththe punching mechanism and the wire closer. A one handle design canoften leads to stress on the wire closer which then leads to a loss ofaccuracy. The TW3100's two handle design ensures that you won't have toworry about this. In addition to the fortydisengageable dies, the TW3100 also features a gauge that allows you tocontrol the depth of your punch. This great feature allows the user toensure functionality of documents both thick and thin. On largerdocuments, for instance, you will want the punched holes to be a littlefurther from the sheet edge so the pages will turn easily and they areless likely to be accidentally torn from the book during normal usage. The TW3100 features all metal construction including all of the majorcomponents. It is clearly built to stand up to years of use. Tamericamust agree, they provide a two year warranty on this machine whereasthe industry standard seems to be one year. Weaknesses: Thewire closer on the TW3100's front end appears to be rugged enough towithstand medium duty usage without a problem. We did find, howeverthat having to open a compartment in order to use the closer made thewhole process a little less convenient that we would like to see. Allit does is add an extra step to the process. Not a big deal for smallprojects, however, for larger volumes this may get a little tedious. The TW3100 is a nice machine, but it is still a manual binding systemafter all is said and done. Users who will need to process a largenumber of books on a regular basis would probably be advised to find amachine that contains an electric punching mechanism. This is a machine that is designed to bind books with a three to onepitch, which limits the book size somewhat. If you are going to beproducing larger books on a regular basis, you may want to find amachine that will punch both two to one and three to one pitch holes.
