Want to buy something? You talk directly to the seller. Much better for haggling and bargain seekers. The OKC Public Farmers Market antique shops have been in existence for about 40 years. That should make it the oldest spot in Oklahoma City for shopping. The antique dealers are in a 20,000 sf building that is attached to the landmark, two story building visible from I40.The farmers market originally opened it's doors in 1928 for the area farmers to sell their produce. Looking at the unusual layout of the building, one can just imagine the farmers bringing their wagons to the stalls and setting up for the day.The OKC Farmers Market building is on the national register of historic buildings, it's said to have the largest hardwood dancing floor in Oklahoma City. Currently school proms, weddings and other social events are held in the ballroom. The antique mall area boasts 28 dealers, with many of those dealers having multiple little shop areas open. There is a book dealer, a few folks selling 1950s/60s retro furniture, vintage accessories are found in a few shops, along with Market Master Bill Hogan's shop and restoration services.Hogan can restore just about everything, he gave me a sneak peek into his large shop area where I was able to see numerous pieces in various stages to repair. It looked like he fixes just about anything, including fabricating metal pieces to restore a piece to it's former glory, as well as rebuilding wooden furniture that came to him in pieces.Hogan's antique shop is probably the only place in Oklahoma City that I've seen multiple antique feather trees. He's had them in various sizes, as well as loads of other antique Christmas items. The antique mall is a little community with dealers chatting back and forth, a table set up in the middle with a dominos game in progress, and an area for dealers to have lunch, etc.If you're looking for a different outing -- check it out! Best bet is a weekend when all the dealers are around. So there you have it. The big news behind Oklahoma City's big real estate opportunities.
