Fellowes makes great paper shredders, evensmaller ones that are great for personal use. One of these devices isthe PowerShred PS-60. Here are the pros - and cons - of this machine. The pros: ThePS-60 has a great shredding capacity. It's capable of shredding up to12 sheets at once which adds up to about 130 sheets per minute. Thatmakes this machine a good choice if you want to be able to shred a lotof documents quickly. This shredder has a feedopening that's 9 inches wide. Because of this, you'll be able to shredboth letter- and legal-sized paper without any problems. You can leavethe staples and paper clips in your documents because the blades aresharp enough to tear them up. In addition topaper, the PS-60 can destroy credit and debit cards. This is a greatfeature to have in a personal-sized shredder and it's not aparticularly common one. Using this machine to get rid of your unwantedor expired cards is much safer than using scissors to cut them up, soyou'll have increased security. Speaking ofsecurity, the PS-60 is a strip-cut device. It will turn a sheet ofpaper into numerous strips that are 7/32" wide. That makes it almostimpossible for anyone to reassemble your documents. The shreds arestored in a 6-gallon waste compartment until you dispose of them. Thecompartment even has a window so you can see how full it's getting. To prevent paper jams from occurring, Fellowes outfitted this devicewith a sheet capacity gauge so you'll be able to shred just the rightamount every time. But, if a jam does occur, there's a reverse mode youcan use to clear things up. This device is equipped with an automatic start/stop feature which makes using this machine a smooth experience. If price is a concern, don't worry because this device can be yours forwell under $200.00. It also comes with an excellent warranty: thecutting mechanism is covered for up to 5 years. The cons: Strip-cut shredders don't offer quite as much security as theircross-cut counterparts. Therefore, if you have highly confidentialdocuments, they shouldn't be shredded with this device. ThePS-60 isn't meant for continual use. After 10 minutes of shredding, youneed to let the machine cool off for 20 minutes before you use itagain. This machine lacks Fellowes' very popularSafeSense feature. SafeSense is a system that can detect when hands aretoo close to the feed opening. When that happens, the shredderautomatically shuts down. It's a great feature and it'd be nice if thePS-60 had it. The Fellowes PowerShred PS-60definitely has more pros than cons. While it can't be used non-stop andit doesn't offer as much security as a cross-cut device, this machineis still an excellent choice if you need a small paper shredder foryour home or office. It's easy to use, can take care of those unwantedcredit cards, and isn't too likely to jam up on you. And, of course,it's affordable and has a great warranty. Therefore, the PS-60 is agreat buy.
