Here we take a lookat the 700E's features, and give you our assessment of its strengthsand weaknesses. Strengths: We were impressed with the 700E's ability to easily cutthree hundred seventy five pages of 20lb paper. Although you probablycan't call the 700E a true ream cutter, at this capacity, we think thatit would be a great choice for businesses, churches, schools, etc. Oranyone, who needs to cut large stacks of paper to produce brochures, flyers, newsletters, and the like. We thoughtthe paper clamp was a nice for a manually operated unit, and found thepaper stop was easy to use and adjust. These are great features thatallow the user to ensure a true and straight cut. Safety is always an issue when you are using a paper cutter, and weliked that Martin Yale included a blade latch mechanism on the 700Ethat keeps the cutting blade in place until the latch is released. Thisfeature ensures that the user will need to use both hands for to usethe machine, which helps to keep fingers out of the way of the blade. The 700E's long and very sharp blade give the average person all theleverage and strength you will need to easily cut though large stacksof paper without needing to be an Olympic weightlifter. The clamp worked great, as long as we didn't over-tighten it. We foundthat it was pretty easy to get the hang of the correct amount ofpressure to apply on the stack, and once we did the cuts were reallynice. Weaknesses: Thecutting blade of the 700E is twelve inches, which will get you throughthe vast majority of cutting jobs. However, it cannot handle documentsthat are any larger than that. If you are going to need to cut biggersizes, you will have to look for another machine. Although the blade latch helps to ensure some measure of safety, youshould always keep in mind the potential dangers of this kind ofequipment. It may be a good idea to put a lock on this machine when itis not in use, and to make sure that children don't go near it withoutan adult around. This is sound advice for any paper cutter, however andis not a specific weakness of the 700E. Itshould go without saying that a cutter of this type needs a very sharpblade in order to be most effective. It's always a good idea to keep anextra blade on hand. The process of changing the blade of the 700E is abit on the laborious side, and took us a good forty five minutes tocomplete. While the 700E is agreat machine for cutting large stacks of paper, it doesn't give thecleanest cut when you use it with just one or two sheets at a time. Forthis purpose, you might want to keep a smaller rotary cutter on hand. Article Tags: Martin Yale 700e, Martin Yale, Yale 700e, Paper Cutter, Large Stacks
