The As we all know to live in this world we have to perform some activity by which we can earn money. The GBC Shredmaster SC060 is a shredder that isdesigned to be placed atop your wastebasket for easy and convenientshredding. Here we will take a closer look at this machine, and giveyou what we consider to be some if its strengths and weaknesses. Strengths: Wefound that the SC060 easily lived up to its claimed capacity of ninesheets at a time, and also found that it had no problems at all withpaperclips or staples. It is rated for shredding credit cards as well. The SC060 is pretty versatile in that it is designed to sit atop awastebasket, meaning that you can place it on just about any receptacleyou choose. There is an adjusting arm which will enable you to fit iton baskets from thirteen inches across to sixteen inches. The SC060won't cover the whole opening of most wastebaskets, meaning you will beable to leave it in place and still use the receptacle for other trash. The SC060's three settings increase theversatility of this machine and we found them pretty handy. We reallyliked how we could set the shredder to start automatically when paperis placed into the feed. This makes using the SC060 very convenient. There is also a manual setting you can use in the forward position toshred smaller sheets, or to perhaps help with the occasional paper jam. Also handy in helping to remove paper jams is the reverse function. The warranty that GBC offers is pretty impressive for such a relativelyinexpensive, light duty machine. There is two years coverage on themotor for the SC060, and the cutting blades are warranted for fiveyears. Obviously GBC has some faith in this machine as well. The SC060 operates at a pretty decent speed of about fifteen feet perminute, which translates into about four seconds for the average lettersize sheet. Weaknesses: Although ratedfor five hundred sheets per day, the SC060 is designed for moderate useat best. You will likely run into problems with overheating if you tryto use this shredder for more than a few minutes at a time. If the unitoverheats, it will turn itself off, and will require a cooling downperiod of about a half hour before you can use it again. Not a dealbreaker, but something that you should be aware of. The SC060 is a strip cut shredder, meaning that it cuts your documentsinto long strips that are a quarter of an inch wide. Strip cutshredding, it must be said, offers the lowest security, and fills upwastebaskets pretty quickly. If you are going to be shredding documentsthat you consider especially private, secure, or confidential, youshould, in all likelihood, look for s shredder that shreds in the crosscut style. With a feed opening of only nineinches, you will only be able to feed letter size sheets into the SC060without having to tear or fold the papers first. This is not a dealbreaker, but might add a little more time to the process.
