Hisachievements during his lifetime and his contribution in the history of watchesmake him the greatest watchmaker ever. At a very young age, he moved to Parisand started producing his greatest work. Todays modern wristwatches are hisbrainchild. He invented and perfected the automatic winding system, inventedstop protection and repeat mechanism. He also developed the slim profilewatches. He made the worlds first wristwatch in 1810 for Carolina Murat,Napoleans sister. His inventions and designs for both hands and numerals arestill seen in all the watches. He became favorite of the French politicians. He producedmany watches that were worn by Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, and otherluminaries. He worked for Napoleon and then for Louis XVIII. During this time,he supplied Breguet watches to several eminent personalities of Europe. Hisintroduced the subscription watches for which his distinguished patrons had topay for the timepieces in advance. He was one of the members of the Board of Longitude, and wasappointed as a chronometer maker to the French Navy. He invented thetourbillion watches that rotate the escapement of the watch within themovement, defying the effects of gravity. The invention proved to the greatestachievement in the history of watch making. His contribution to social,scientific and military life is marvelous. Breguets association with the French Navy is reflected inthe Marine watches produced in 1999. The robust look of these timepieces wasdifferent from other classic dress watches. The watches for marine collectionhave a heavy case and cramped guard. They are easily identifiable due to thesignature details on the dial. The case of the watches is coin-edged andresembles Breguets pocket watches. The watches have alligator straps fixed bygold screws. The dial is 18 carat yellow gold hand engraved and with a touch ofsilver powder on the surface. The blue hands in the watches are typical toBreguets hands with a pointed tip. These Breguet watches also have serial numberson the dial whit same font type that matches with the letters at the back ofthe case. When Hong Kong was handed over to China in 1997, 116 watchesof this series were produced to mark the historical movement. Ninety Seven ofthe total watches were made in yellow gold and the rest in white gold. Thedistinguishing feature of these iconic watches is their engraving style on thedial. The hour and second hands are positioned in such a way on the dial thatthey touch the appropriate mark on the corner. The historical date is seen atthe 12 Oclock position with Breguets signature engraved at either side, and the serial number at thebottom of the dial. The use of signature on the dial was an effort to give atough time to the fake watchmakers, since Breguet watches are mostly copied dueto their saleability and demand in the market. Most of the watches manufacturedby Breguet Company come with the miniature signature printed on the dial. Atthe back of the watch, one can see the rotor and the movement. The serialnumber of the watches is engraved at the top on the back of the case. /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable{mso-style-name:"Table Normal";mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0;mso-tstyle-colband-size:0;mso-style-noshow:yes;mso-style-priority:99;mso-style-qformat:yes;mso-style-parent:"";mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt;mso-para-margin:0in;mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt;mso-pagination:widow-orphan;font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast;mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}
