We spend so much time trying to get the business up and running that we may end up becoming burned out and lose our motivation. There is so much to learn and
I love the whole idea of spoken books - that is, books that are read aloud and recorded for our enjoyment. It opens a whole new way of enjoying the written word, and takes reading to a whole new level. Many Christians who have a long commute, for example, are now able to use that time to 'read' their audio Bibles. What a blessing! In the infancy of recorded books, the most popular format was cassette tapes. The limitations of this were that the tapes wore out quickly and tended to develop a "squealing" sound that grated on the nerves of the listener. As time went on, and technology made advances, a new format began to emerge as the leading source of recorded books. The advent of compact disc recording technology changed the face of music and the spoken word. Now the entire Bible could be read aloud and burned onto just fifty compact discs - small enough to carry in an overnight bag on a long trip! Again, some limitations surfaced in even this new and wonderful format. CDs (as they came to be called) could wear out as well, developing scratches from being played too often. Careless listeners learned, to their chagrin, that exposing CDs to a magnet could render them permanently unplayable, and extreme heat or cold could do likewise. The wonderful world of technology came to the rescue yet again, as miniaturization made greater strides and the contents of an entire set of encyclopedias could be reduced to a player the size of a deck of cards. Amazing things began to come about, and MP3 files began to surface in ever greater numbers. It is now possible to load the entire Bible - Genesis to Revelation - into an MP3 audio player that is smaller than a deck of cards. The sound quality is excellent and even for the hard of hearing, the volume is quite loud. In addition, these dandy little players come equipped with limited graphic equalizers that can augment sound quality to suit your comfort level. What is the benefit of all this wonderful technology? Well, technology for technology's sake is pointless...but as a tool of ministry, edification and inspiration, the advances in technology can make audio Bibles very portable and readily available to anyone with headphones and enough batteries to power the players. I think that the new audio Bibles at our disposal are a great help in the Great Commission that Jesus gave us - to 'go into all the world and make disciples of all the nations.' Hallelujah!
