It was during his stint as fashion designer for Chloe that he really made major inroads and his collaboration with Chloe lasted for 20 years. It was also during this time when he established his own company, Parfums Lagerfeld. From 1978 to 1982, Lagerfeld started designing haute couture lines for the House of Chanel.During his stint with Chanel, Lagerfeld formally launched his own fashion design company in 1984 and re-established his design collaboration with Chloe. His collaboration with Chloe lasted until 1997. In addition to his own design label, Lagerfeld is currently the fashion designer for Fendi and Chanel. His design company, Karl Lagerfeld SA, specializes in products bearing the Karl Lagerfeld label. The company was bought by the British Dunhill Holding Plc in 1992. This company belongs to the Richemont Holding of Switzerland, a company managed by Lord Douro. According to some unconfirmed reports, the transaction was valued at $26 million. Incidentally, Chloe also belongs to the Vendome Group of companies, which is an affiliate company of Richemont Holding of Switzerland. Lagerfeld bought back all rights of the Lagerfeld label from Vendome in 1997. Information and data on the business stakes of Lagerfeld are limited, although some experts estimate his business holdings at about $18 million and 80 percent of his income is accounted for by his export business. Lagerfeld owns and operates some 230 exclusive boutiques in major cities around the globe. Products under the Lagerfeld label are also sold in exclusive department stores and boutiques. The current licenses of Lagerfeld include shoes, scarves, men's wear, sunglasses, neckties, jewelry, watches, wallpapers, carpets and interior fabrics.
