We all know about Mac web hosting by now. Its the best possible web hosting that you could use for your blog or website, as it is much faster and much more secure than any other type of hosting. And the popularity of Mac hosting is increasing by the day! Its hard to believe that it hasnt always been this way but in fact, Mac hosting the way we know it today is something thats a fairly new concept. It all originated over ten years ago when Apple decided that they wanted to offer a product that would be all-encompassing for the consumer, and contain all the features they were looking for. In order to do this, Apple knew that they would have to create a product that included all the usability and ease of use that at that time and still today, comes with Windows hosting. But Apple wanted more from that product, and so they wanted to include the sheer power and flexibility that comes with the Unix server. That was why in 2001, they released the Mac OS X server. It was promoted as being extremely stable, and having functionality and usability that far surpassed anything that was available at that time. Once it reached the marketplace, people soon saw that this was a superior product, but still only a few knew about it. While some were trying out the new server software, others simply had not heard of it yet or, were reluctant to try something that hadnt yet been fully proven to them. That all changed in 2003 though. It was that year that Apple released its version 10.3 of the Mac OS X server, and it didnt take long for people to demand it. By that time, Internet users and website developers and owners were already fairly comfortable with products such as web servers; and there were enough already online that it wasnt hard to see that Mac web servers simply worked and that they worked better than any other kind. It was this version of the server that really revolutionized things for Apple and Mac web hosting; and it was this version that really made it mainstream. Still, there was a problem. Up until that point, Mac servers still only supported Apache through GUI administrative tools, and that was a problem for many users. So, when Apple released the version 10.5 Mac OS X server in 2007 they made sure that this was no longer an issue. This server had Apache built right into the GUI management tool set, something that is now known as Leopard. This took care of the biggest issues facing those who wanted to use a Mac server, and made it more accessible to all. But Apple isnt done yet. This is a brand that is constantly changing and evolving, trying to improve upon its product. Can you imagine where its headed next?
