Website design is one of the important elements to consider in building a website. With so many websites going online today, it is pretty hard to get the attention of the viewers. When viewers search and then choose to visit a site, they instantly click away when at first glance they already see the website is uninteresting or even unappealing to them. The basics of web design come in two aspects. The first one is associated with the substance and relevance of the content placed in the site. A lot of web designers may disregard this aspect entirely, thinking they are only after the layout and all other characteristics which go with it. However, the content selection must also be their concern. For example, they may have a number of images to place in the website. They must carefully choose which of the images will look best at first glance. The same thing goes for videos. Many website designers like to use an introductory video at the top of the website so the viewer can see it right away. Of course, the selected video must be introductory in nature which means it must welcome the guest and give them an overview on what the site is all about.Aside from the substance, basic web design principles also refer to the structure. Simply put, this refers to the layout of the site. One common mistake of designers is when they put too much on the home page, or in any other page for that matter. The key is to keep it clean, readable and easy to follow. To keep it clean means to design without clutter. Putting too many elements on one page causes clutter and confusion for the viewer. Make sure to observe balance in the content. Take a good look at the size and placement of columns for example. Another thing which can affect the readability of a webpage is the selection of colors. Colors play a very significant part in design. Some want to go for a safe black and white theme. However, too much black and white results in creating a certain amount of dullness to the design. Designers always take a risk as they are choosing their color themes. Some choose wisely but some choose poorly. Always remember that no matter the colors or color combinations, the site must be readable at all times.Good website design is all about the selection and balance. Keep these in mind when working on your website design. While all of this may sound simple, the decisions you make will have a great impact to the final website itself.
