Self-esteem means that you to feel goodabout yourself and does not depend upon anyone else. self-esteem comes frominside. Having a healthy self-esteem means that you are comfortable withyourself and you are okay the way that you are. This does not mean that growthis over and done for you; it just means that self-acceptance is the first stepfor change. Many women who are suffering from lowself-esteem suffer so because they have absorbed negative messages about whatit means to be female which come from their culture. Some of the messages might have come fromthe popular media sources regarding what is "beautiful" and what isnot. These messages insist on followingstrict diets, having a "perfect" body, and so on, so that you feelthat you can never be good enough. Other women may been raised to believe thatthey have to postpone their own needs in order to please other people. Thistrain of thought leads to the poor self-esteem that typically results indepression, anxiety, and physical sickness health. Women with low self-esteemdon't go for regular checkups, exercise, or take care of their personal needsbecause they really don't think they're worthy to take up other people's timewith these "trivial" matters. In relation to men, women who suffer fromlow self-esteem stay in abusive relationships because they feel like they don'tdeserve anything better. Furthermore, if they have children they are unable tocommand respect and set boundaries because they feel like they are unworthy ofthe respect that parents need and, in fact, are worthy of.Women who are parents have a great need ofself-esteem. They are role models for daughters and, for their sons, they arethe image of the kind of woman their son will seek out as a wife. Here are some tips to help women increasetheir self-esteem: Learn to put yourself first. You won't beable to give what you dont have. If you don't put yourself first, even if youare a mother to several children, will make you bitter and resentful--and your children certainly don't needthat from their parent.Don't allow other people to abuse you.You deserve better. When you live this out, you teach your children that theydeserve better.Think about how your family and culturehave influenced your experience of being a woman. Then, think for yourself howyou believe a woman needs and deserves to be treated.Remember that you are equal in value to aman. Your gender is not a problem, but maybe your personal beliefs are. Overcome the victim mentality. Women muststop allowing themselves to feel like victims. They must also stop blaming menfor their problems. A woman's self-esteem begins withacceptance of being female. Your body is not exactly like a man's. Yourtemperament is not exactly like a man's. There is nothing wrong with you forbeing female--but, there is also nothing wrong with men for being men. Neverlet yourself be a victim, but also never put the blame on a man for yourmisery. A strong woman does not play the blame game--she overcomes her personalproblems because she knows she can.© Copyright - Carla Valencia. All Rights Reserved. Building Self Esteem
